CARMEL VIEWS, Monterey County — October 30, 2026. Homeowners preparing their properties for wildfire season have a free way to dispose of eligible cut tree limbs this November. The Cypress Fire Protection District has scheduled its final announced 2026 residential chipping round for Monday, November 9, through Friday, November 20, and the Carmel Views Community Association has notified its members that the program serves the neighborhood.
No sign-up or appointment is needed, but eligibility and how branches are arranged matter. The district says the chipper contractor travels through its area only once during the two-week round. Homeowners who miss that pass should not assume a truck will return later in November.
Critical deadline: 8 a.m. Monday, November 9
According to the fire district’s official 2026 Fuel Reduction and Chipper Program instructions, all eligible limbs must be placed at the roadside no later than 8 a.m. on the first Monday of the service window—November 9 for this round. The district says to start setting out piles no earlier than one week before the announced period, meaning no earlier than about November 2.
The Carmel Views association also warns residents not to leave cuttings beside the roadway for long periods because piles can dry out and create a hazard. Where older association advice suggests a longer preparatory period, homeowners should follow the fire district’s newer and stricter one-week requirement.
How large can the piles be?
The official specifications are detailed:
- Maximum height: 4 feet per pile.
- Maximum width: 5 feet per pile, with 3 feet between piles.
- Maximum number: 10 piles per property under the announced rules.
- Branch diameter: no larger than 6 inches; branches may be any length.
- Placement: organize branches neatly with butt ends perpendicular to the road and free of nails or other metal objects.
Roadside piles should not block driveways, pedestrian access, storm drains or emergency vehicles. Being in the service area does not authorize a homeowner to place materials on somebody else’s property without permission.
What will crews refuse?
The district explicitly excludes genista, poison oak, bamboo, vines, brush, New Zealand flax and oleander. It also refuses branches containing metal objects. These items may require a different appropriate disposal method. The association specifically says genista and brush too small for the chipper should go into accepted green-yard-waste collection instead, subject to the rules of the local provider.
Do chips stay on the property?
The district says shredded material ordinarily will be removed at no cost, but it may be left on the property if the owner asks. The service is intended to reduce vegetation that contributes to wildfire risk, not to clear unrestricted construction debris or commercial landscaping loads.
Where to ask for help
For questions about the Cypress Fire Protection District program, the district lists Fire Captain Shayon Ascarie, (831) 594-1427. The community association also asks residents who believe their compliant piles were missed to call promptly while the contractor is still in the area, rather than assuming a second scheduled pass.
This is a planned debris-removal service, not a controlled burn, evacuation order or report of an active wildfire. For fire or other immediate emergencies, use official emergency channels.
